Nalus

What is Nalus?

Nalus is a world.  Its name, Nalus, is taken from the word "salis" found in a latin word list to mean health, safety, salvation.

The climate on Nalus is balanced. The northern most continents of Fiacwyn, Thornfrid, Morsis and the northern areas and high altitudes of the Jalumas are bitter and cold, though evenly populated.  The southern most continents of Alfsvor and Vordis, and the lower Coinndis-Wri islands are also cold, though not as frigid as the northern.  Varlin at the heart of Nalus is home to the largest rainforest and widest varied climate on one continent. The islands of Glicra are volcanic, harsh and tropical. Naodden, Coinndis-Wri and Varbed have more varied seasons. Kaoilen is the northern pole of Nalus, a land mass covered in ice and uninhabitable.

The oceans of Nalus are wide-spanning, covering much of the planet's surface.  Coinndis-Wri a large low-lying continent spends much of its time flooded all but its highest peaks. The ocean waters are cleansing and nourishing and provide much to the people of Nalus.

Animal life.  Although the animal life of Nalus has evolved over thousands of years apart from Earth, they still hold similarities of Earth animals. Large carnivorous felines reside in the forests. Reptiles range from small insect eating to large and flesh eating. Birds fill the skies. However, there are many distinct species seperate from Earth.

The Drutek (drew-tek) is a large land mammal, average adult males measuring 8 feet high at the shoulders. A brutal carnivor, its ability to fly makes it even more dangerous and terrifying. Most likely the creature to begin legends of dragons, it can exist only for short times outside of its fiery home mountains of Glicra.

The Arihes (ar-ees) are a dying breed even on Nalus. A distant cousin to the Drutek, an Arihes adult male will reach a height of approxamately 48 inches. Average weight is 200 pounds. Arihes are extremely strong, fast and agile creatures. They can breathe under water, climb nearly anything with their sharp claws and glide from high altitudes with the aid of thick, leathery wings attached to their front legs. They are energetic, friendly and loyal creatures unless threatened. Dvari, Kynly's pet is an Arihes.

Nalus is home to three distinct groups of humans.

The Alarions (a-lare-eeons) are most numerous. Tall, peaceful beings, it is their slightly slanted eyes, fine silken hair, long four fingered hands, and blue tinted skin which reveals their heritage. Because of their calm nature, it is the Alarions who hold most of the high council seats and make the decisions for Nalus. Others are employed as teachers and scientists. Though so peaceful, they are extremely intelligent and can be a very dangerous opponent when they must.

Nafeen (nah-feen) people are often more brutish, their average height ranging more widely than the Alarions. They are a strong race, their skin tone holding a hint of gold or red, their eyes more square, hair thick and coarse. They too are mostly peaceful, living contentedly among the Alarions, populating and working the harsher climates, often holding powerful positions in the more demanding jobs such as farming and building.

Earthlings.  The Earthlings of Nalus are of ancient descent, from a time when Earth and Nalus were connected and traveled upon freely.  Earthlings now caught in glitches from the ancient dimensional portals are sent to live on the contintent of Morsis.  It is feared that the present Earth is a violent, poisonous place and so its people are also feared.  Ancient Earthlings however are entwined into the cultures of Nalus and not so feared though is it still believed they hold poisoned genetics.

The Ri-Nafeen (ree-nah-feen) are a mixture of all Nalus groups led by a family of Nafeen-Earthlings. They hold many secrets, including their ability to gather a force so strong, so secretive, in a harmoneous place like Nalus.
